چکیده

We reviewed the absolute amd differential growths of the myocyte populations in the left (L) and right (R) ventricular myocardium morphometrically from 1 to 5 days and from 5 to 11 days after birth. From 1 to 11 days hypertrophy of the average myocyte in the ventricles was (L) 2.7and (R) 2.4-fold, and myocyte proliferation was (L) 2.0and (R) 1.2-fold. Mean cell volume, cell length, and percent binucleation of cardiac myocytes were similar in both ventricles at 1, 5, and 11 days of age. During this period, average myocyte length increased 2-fold (12 sarcomere lengths), and the percentage of binucleate myocytes increased approximately from 2.7 to 17 to 48%. Myocyte hypertrophy from 1 to 5 days resulted mainly from an increase in the volume of cytoplasm per nucleus and from 5 to 11 days from the accumulation of binucleate cells. No differences were observed in the characteristics of epicardial and endocardial myocytes in either ventricle up to 11 days of age. The 61% greater proliferation of myocytes in the left ventricle was the principal basis for the development of a 2-fold difference in ventricular weight gains: (L) 6.2and (R) 3.4-fold. No increase in right ventricular midwall thickness was observed, in contrast to a 2.7-fold increase of the left ventricle. It was concluded that, as a result of the circulatory changes occurring shortly after birth, right ventricular growth is analogous to eccentric hypertrophy, whereas left ventricular growth represents a combination of eccentric and concentric hypertrophy. Age-related changes in ploidy levels and biochemical parameters in cardiac myocytes isolated from spontaneously hypertensive rats.

Postnatal growth of the mammalian ventricular myocyte is characterized by a brief period of hyperplasia followed by an extensive period of physiological hypertrophy. Using myocytes isolated from both Wistar-Kyoto and spontaneously hypertensive rats from fetus to 10 months old, we analyzed morphological, biochemical, and ploidy changes. Fetal myocytes from both spontaneously hypertensive and Wis...

Role of oxidative stress in the aortic constriction-induced ventricular hypertrophy in rat

Introduction:Severe abdominal aortic constriction above the renal arteries induces arterial hypertension above the stenotic site that is the cause of cardiac hypertrophy. Previous studies have shown that high blood pressure induces myocardial oxidative stress with conflicting results. In the present study, we assessed the effects of acute hypertension on the myocardial oxidative stress an...

Myocyte cell loss and myocyte cellular hyperplasia in the hypertrophied aging rat heart.

To determine the effects of age on the myocardium, the functional and structural characteristics of the heart were studied in rats at 4, 12, 20, and 29 months of age. Mean arterial pressure, left ventricular pressure and its first derivative (dP/dt), and heart rate were comparable in rat groups up to 20 months. During the interval from 20 to 29 months, elevated left ventricular end-diastolic pr...

Resveratrol Suppresses Cardiac Renin Angiotensin System in the Late Phase of Left Ventricular Hypertrophy

Background and objectives: Resveratrol(3,5,4′-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene) is a natural polyphenole phytoalexin which exerts potential cardioprotective effects, but the cellular and molecular mechanisms responsible for these effects are still unknown. Cardiac renin angiotensin system (RAS) over-activation plays an important role in pathogenesis of left ventricula...

Morphometry of exercise-induced right ventricular hypertrophy in the rat.

In our morphometric study of the effects of exercise on the heart, male Wistar-Kyoto rats at 5 weeks of age were subjected daily to a moderate treadmill running program that lasted for 7 weeks. The heart responded to physical conditioning by different magnitudes of tissue growth of the right (22%) and left (7%) ventricular myocardium, the latter change not statistically significant. The increas...
